Solar questions answered

A practical solar FAQ for Pakistan.

Regulations, tariffs, equipment availability, and site conditions can change. These answers explain the engineering principles without promising approval, eligibility, or a fixed outcome.

Planning & sizing

Start with the load, not a package size

How is the right solar system size calculated in Pakistan?

System sizing should use recent electricity consumption, daytime load, seasonal variation, available roof or land area, sanctioned load, grid conditions, backup priorities, and expected growth. A preliminary calculator can create a useful range, but final capacity should follow a site survey and electrical review.

What determines the cost of a solar system?

Cost depends on required capacity, module and inverter selection, mounting structure, cable routes, protection equipment, roof or civil work, monitoring, grid integration, batteries, generator coordination, and any electrical upgrades. A responsible quotation separates these items instead of relying only on a price-per-watt headline.

How much roof area does a solar system need?

Roof-area needs vary with module dimensions, orientation, shade, access paths, setbacks, structural constraints, and the mounting arrangement. Skyland’s planning tool provides an early indication, while a survey confirms the usable area and layout.

Applications

Solar for every customer scale

Does Skyland Energy install residential solar systems?

Yes. Skyland serves industrial, commercial, and residential customers. Residential planning can include rooftop solar, monitoring, backup, battery storage, and grid integration according to the property’s actual load and priorities.

How is commercial or industrial solar different from residential solar?

Commercial and industrial projects usually require deeper load analysis, protection coordination, structural and electrical engineering, demand management, production-aware installation planning, and formal commissioning. Residential properties generally have smaller loads, but still benefit from correct protection, safe installation, and transparent sizing.

How does Skyland plan for different customer types?

Every industrial, commercial, or residential system is designed around its operating schedule, critical loads, available space, grid conditions, and backup priorities rather than treated as a generic solar package.

Technology

Generation, storage, and control

What is net metering and is every project eligible?

Net metering is a regulated grid-interconnection and billing arrangement for eligible systems. Requirements and approvals depend on the applicable rules, the local distribution company, the connection, and the proposed system. Skyland can support technical documentation and coordination, but eligibility and approval cannot be guaranteed before review.

When should a solar project include battery energy storage (BESS)?

BESS may be useful when a site needs critical-load backup, greater use of solar energy outside daylight hours, peak management, load shifting, or coordinated operation with the grid and generators. Battery capacity should be based on load duration, power demand, operating strategy, and lifecycle requirements.

Can solar operate safely with a diesel generator?

Yes, when the sources are engineered and controlled correctly. A PV–genset controller can coordinate solar, generator, and grid operation, manage export limits where required, support stable loading, provide monitoring, and apply suitable reverse-power and electrical protection.

What maintenance does a solar installation require?

Typical maintenance includes module cleaning appropriate to site conditions, visual and electrical inspections, structure and cable checks, inverter and protection review, monitoring analysis, fault response, and periodic performance reporting. The exact schedule depends on the environment, equipment, and operating criticality.

Delivery & ownership

Choose a practical delivery model

Which solar project delivery and financing models does Skyland offer?

Available routes include EPC, bank-financing support, a 50/50 installment structure for applicable projects, deferred LC, 10–20-year power purchase agreements, and operations and maintenance. Suitability, availability, eligibility, and commercial terms are assessed for each project.

What should customers check before choosing a solar company?

Check whether the proposal explains the load assumptions, equipment, protection, layout, generation estimate, exclusions, approvals, warranties, commissioning, monitoring, and after-sales responsibilities. Documented credentials, relevant engineering capability, clear commercial terms, and verifiable project experience are more useful than unsupported savings promises.

Planning a residential system?

Use the calculator for a preliminary range, then validate it against bills, roof conditions, and backup needs.
